Coffee in the United States is served by three kinds of places: national chains with drive-thrus and mobile ordering, independent neighborhood cafes that double as a workspace or a meeting spot, and specialty shops that roast their own beans or buy single-origin lots and brew them by pour-over, espresso or cold brew. Most open between 6 and 7 a.m. on weekdays, slightly later on weekends, and the busiest hour is the commute rush before 9. A drip coffee runs a few dollars, espresso drinks and specialty pours more, and tipping a dollar or a percentage on the card reader is customary but not required. Nearly every cafe offers free Wi-Fi, though some limit laptop seating at peak times or on weekends, and outlets are often the scarce resource.
The business lists hours on 5 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 8 am–4 pm. It is closed on Monday, Tuesday. Atlanta is in Georgia, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Atlanta is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Georgia's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

I wanted to try out Sugar Loaf's gluten-free biscuits. So I got a egg, sausage and cheese biscuit sandwich and a latte. Both were okay. The biscuit was good. The sausage was a little salty. Hubby also got the sausage, egg and chees biscuit. The latte was mediocre. Parking was in deck and the restaurant validated.

Sugar Loaf lives up to the hype. It's easy to see why this spot is already earning awards. The Southern-inspired menu with Ethiopian influences is genuinely creative, and the signature Dabo biscuit is something every first-time visitor should try. The flavors are bold yet balanced, especially with the berbere honey, and everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The service was just as impressive: warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from start to finish. I also had the Drive-In Burger, and after one bite it made perfect sense why it was voted one of Atlanta's top burgers. Sugar Loaf isn't just another trendy café; it's a place with originality, outstanding execution, and hospitality that makes you want to come back.

Wonderful, locally owned, and super unique coffee shop + bakery/burger joint! Try everything they have in stock when you come, you won’t regret it. Be sure to come during the hours of the menu you’d like to try as breakfast and lunch are segmented.

The coffee was good, and the buttermilk biscuit was excellent. I wanted to try the Dabo biscuit, but they didn’t have any. Hopefully, they’ll have some on my next visit.

We’ve been fans of Sugar Loaf for years, so we were thrilled to see the café finally open. We’ve already been twice, and it’s been just as wonderful as we hoped. The space is warm and inviting, with beautiful natural light, plenty of tables, and counter seating that adds a little diner charm. The biscuit sandwich was the first thing I ever tried from Sugar Loaf, and it’s still unmatched. I had the chicken sausage, egg, and cheese on a dabo biscuit this time and it may be my new go-to — but the pimento cheese biscuit is just as good. Their house-made chai is fantastic hot or iced. We also stopped in for lunch and tried the drive-in burgers with sides of azifa and smashed cucumbers. Everything was thoughtfully prepared, perfectly cooked, and came out quickly with friendly, attentive service. And don’t leave without pastries. The banana bread is truly special, and the lil’ Nebi sandwiches and chocolate chip salted toffee cookies are standouts.
